Jayde Gibbons

Born and raised in Bermuda, Jayde's love for the arts and photography came early thanks to what she says was close proximity to artists growing up. Her debut in fine art photography was in February 2019 with '441', an annual group show hosted by Masterworks Museum. There she was described as one of Bermuda's most prolific up-and-coming photographers. In October 2019, the self-taught photographer entered the Charman Prize, her first art competition, and won, making Jayde the first photographer and Afro Bermudian artist to win the coveted prize since its inception in 2008. Following the Charman, a piece from her MNFR series 'All the Kings Men' was chosen to be in the 2020 Bermuda Biennial. This work was acquired by the Bermuda National Gallery the same year, adding her photography to the Galleries permanent collection. She went on to Have her first Solo show for MNFR in September of the following year.

Jayde currently works as a photographer and photo librarian for the Bermuda Government and is actively working towards a career in fine art, photojournalism, and commercial fashion photography. The artist list's Bermudian Photographers Richard Saunders and Tamell Simons as well as Bermudian contemporary artists Gherdai Hassell, Tiffanny Paynter, Jahbarri Wilson, Calix Smith as her artistic influences in addition to the likes of Gordon Parks, Deana Lawson and Carrie Mae Weems. The photographer says her dream is to open a photography studio and art Gallery in Bermuda which will help fund a scholarship/grant program to assist other Bermudian creatives of all age groups with their creative endeavour's.
